Miscellaneous Market

The newest shop to arrive in the Ivanhoe Village Main Street district is the female run, family-owned business, Miscellaneous Market.  This mixed retail experience came not on a whim, but as a result of the family's experience rooted in the wedding and events industry here in Orlando.

Tamuel Cowart is the owner of RW Events which is the parent company to several other creative businesses including the Luxmore Grande Estate, Cypress Grove Estate House, and RW Style + Events

What started as a wedding planning business has truly blossomed into a full service brand. As Tamuel found that people were looking for unique style and design for their big day, she saw there was a void that could be filled by creating highly styled and vintage settings for brides.  This included at times, having pieces custom built by her husband, as several clients found many rental facilities lacking in exactly what they had envisioned. This spurred the beginning of the rental company for which they create detailed lookbooks with their  inventory, as well as managing and owning their own beautiful venues.

The newest component of the brand is the new retail space, Miscellaneous Market, that will be run and managed by Tamuel's two daughters, Dede and Landrea.

I got to speak with Dede about the concept, how it came about, and what locals can expect from the new shop.

LH: Where did the concept come from?

MM: "As we worked with brides over the years, they often wanted particular gifts and party items, and for awhile many of them were sourcing goods from Etsy.  Eventually we saw brides started looking elsewhere as the quality of what they found online dropped off, or the timeliness of the service impacted them negatively. It was then we saw a niche where we could provide a service; a place where brides or party planners could come and get the same types of items they were searching for online, and get a better experience. After some research and visiting gift markets we shifted away from focusing solely on weddings and added in a larger assortment that included home interior, decor, gifts, body products, and more. That's where the name Miscellaneous Market came from."

LH: What is the price range of your goods?

MM: It's a wide range because we sell goods from stationary to furniture. So while the most expensive item may be around $300, there will always be a nice assortment of affordable items to choose from.

LH: What is your vision for the space as a part of the Ivanhoe Village community?

MM: We want to turn it into something that continues to be inspiring, where we can work with local vendors and offer seasonal services that are tied to events for the whole community, where everyone is encouraged to come and feel welcome. We are currently working on unique ideas for pop-ups, workshops, and local makers to connect with.

LH: When will the Miscellaneous Market open?

MM: We are hoping to be open in the next few weeks. As soon as we get all of our inspections finished we will announce it online.

Miscellaneous Market is located at 1903 N Orange Avenue, right next to Better than Sex.
