Whippoorwill Beerhouse + Easy Luck Coffee & Bodega
Whippoorwill Beer House is the newest watering hole in the growing Milk District, but there is much more to it than another place to imbibe in hoppy drinks. It’s part bar, part coffee hang, part packaging shop, part California vibes hang out. The ultimate hybrid that covers all the bases for the highly caffeinated and beer-loving millennial. From a nerdy commercial real estate point of view, it’s a great example of a mixed-used space capitalizing on all day-parts, instead of sitting empty half of the time.
In the morning you can bring a laptop and settle into a relatively quiet space and grab non-espresso based drinks from Easy Luck Coffee & Bodega. They plan on rotating different roasters; when I visited they had three options, some local and others from out-of-state.
In addition to coffee, they have a small assorted menu of sweet and savory toasts. They use locally sourced bread from Old Hearth and offer items like the Welsh Rarebit (stout-infused melted cheddar + char-roasted cauliflower florets + chives + fresh-cracked black pepper), a great PB+ J inspired toast, the Congratulations Smack + Katy (seasonal jam + almond butter + crushed almonds + chiffonade basil + fresh strawberry) and their own takes on a BLT (that can be made vegan friendly) and the classic avocado toast. I got a Ligature drip and the PB +J toast for $8.00.
The Whippoorwill bar opens later in the day, (every weekday except Monday) at 3 p.m. or 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. They will be working with local restaurants like Orlando Meats on smaller bite menus for busy peak times. They also have a snack wall that patrons can purchase from.
Coolers line one of the walls, filled with takeaway beer and wine, and also a few non-alcoholic options for those who want to hang out but not drink.
It’s early still, but the vibe was chill and not at all pretentious. It certainly creates an atmosphere that makes you feel welcome to hang out for a bit. We were warmly greeted and attended to by Tanner, Matt, and Tyler with zero douche chill vibes. Slow clap for that.
Make sure to check out the design details like the overhead piece above the bar designed by Process Architecture, the wall art by Secret Society Goods, all mixed in with some very well selected IKEA furniture. Big fan of that yellow couch and those teal chairs.
Parking could get tricky during peak times, but they do have dedicated spots in their parking lot.
Whippoorwill is located at 2425 E. South Street, a stones throw from Market on South.
