Reyes Mezcaleria

Reyes Mezcaleria is the newest venture for Jason and Sue Chin, owners of Seito Sushi and Osprey Tavern. It's located at 255 S Orange Ave in the old Citrus Space, but it is barely recognizable thanks to the brilliance of Sue Chin and her exceptional eye for interior design which of course is on full display at Osprey Tavern as well.  I sat down with Sue to get some details on the new restaurant and what you need to know before you go.

1. When does it open and what will the hours be?

On Monday, May 1st they will open their doors for dinner only. The regular hours are below.

LUNCH

MONDAY - FRIDAY: 11:30AM TO 2:30PM
SATURDAY & SUNDAY: 12:00PM TO 3:00PM

DINNER

SUNDAY THRU THURSDAY: 5:00PM TO 10:00PM
FRIDAY & SATURDAY: 5:00PM TO 11:00PM

2. Will there be brunch?

Yes! There will be brunch on both Saturday and Sunday. Head Chef Austin Boyd has big plans for an amazing menu.

3. Where can you park?

There is a three-story public garage in their building that is free! If you cannot find street parking don't forget to use the garage!

4. Where did the name Reyes come from, and what led to the decision to open a Mexican concept?

Reyes means Kings in Spanish. Jason came up with the name and loved it. He also grew up in Apopka where his family owned a landscaping businesses and spent a lot of time eating at several small authentic Mexican spots on that side of town. He has always been eager to one day open up his own place and they've been waiting for the perfect moment to take it on. Even with other ventures in Orlando, a Mexican restaurant was always on their mind.

5. The decor strikes you as soon as you walk in. Where did all these amazing pieces come from?

Everything you see was purchased locally. The farthest place Sue went to find pieces for her masterful decor was Mt. Dora. She searched places like Orange Tree Antiques and Adjectives to find key pieces. The hand-painted detail on the floor was also done by Sue.

6. The bar is a huge focal point of the space. Will there be a Happy Hour?

A very intensive happy hour is in the works and will be starting from 5pm - 7pm. They are still deciding on weekend hours.

7. What do you think will become signature Reyes menu items?

Tamales and elotes, also the tacos, especially the fish tacos. The corn tortillas will all be handmade as well.

8. Can guests expect traditional Mexican food?

It's regional Mexican mixed with authentic flavors. Even if you are not someone who loves Mexican food, Sue assured me you will find something on their menu you will enjoy.

9. Does Reyes accommodate private group dining?

Yes, they have a beautiful private space that can hold up to fifty people.

10. Where do the prices fall?

The menu is still in final stages of approval but prices are moderate and some entrees are shareable with the menu noting it feeds 2 or 3 people.  There will also be lunch deals during the week for those who need to grab a quick meal that work near their downtown location.
