Eight Places to try Fish and Chips around Orlando

Have you been looking for Fish and Chips in Orlando? I have been as of late. Sometimes you get a craving for something and that leads you down a path of trying it at as many places are your stomach will allow before you can’t take it anymore. I never seem to hit that limit with fish and chips though, so I’ve been able to try a handful of spots lately to see how they stack up.

Traditionally fish and chips should be straight-forward consisting of a good beer batter and some tasty chips to accompany it. You will find however, not all are crispy, some have less flavor due to perhaps less salt and pepper being used (I’m partial to a recipe that adds more like curry powder, and not all fries compliment as well as others.

Fish and Chip lovers, you don't have to pay for entry to Epcot to get your hands on your favorite fried indulgence! So here are some options I’ve tried around the Greater Orlando area for your next fish and chips craving.

Seito Sushi

You probably didn't have Seito Sushi on your bingo card as a place to get fish and chips, but their Fresh Catch of the Day Fish and Chips is a must-try! I failed to ask what the Day's fish was, but I've heard of others getting a Branzino and Cod. Regardless of the fish used, you can get this golden brown crispy batter atop a bed of Aonori fries. Also, the curry cheese fries were terrific if you feel like overindulging. Their fish and chips cost $22, which I thought was fair, and service at Seito is always good.

The Strand

Under the menu listed as Fried Fish, you will find The Strand’s version of a fish and chips dish. I wouldn’t call this one authentic as the batter leans more toward a buttermilk batter similar to their fried chicken, which isn’t as crispy but still a great dish served with their thin, seasoned fries and coleslaw, which I love. The coleslaw strikes a good balance of creamy, lightly sweet, and tart. The price for the entree is $22, and I couldn’t finish it; you get quite a few strips, so I think it’s a good portion for the price.

St. Andrews Tavern

In Altamonte, you'll find this authentic British Pub that will make you think you're watching an AFC Richmond game at Mae's Pub. You will see British dishes like Shepherd's Pie or Bangers and Mash. I stick with the huge serving of Fish and Chips. You can get one piece or split two pieces a dining mate and be full. The fries don't have much to them, but the fish and a pint are the stars here. The price for the two pieces was $28, but considering they were split into two entrees, I felt the price was worth it.

Counter Seafood

Counter Seafood has two locations, one in Sanford and one in College Park. I was excited when the College Park location opened because I had always heard good things. Those good rumors were confirmed when I took my first bite of their 1/2 lb Beer-Battered Haddock served with Old Bay Fries. It is one of the lightest and crispest batters I've found, reminiscent of the Epcot Fish and Chips, but better. At $18 for the dish, I only wish there was a little more fish, but it's still absolutely worth trying.

Clermont Fish House

Over in Clermont, the local Fish House is family-owned and boasts of serving up authentic fish and chips. Their menu lets you choose your fish, including Cod, Haddock, Grouper, and Flounder. I opted for Cod. Their fish and chips are beloved in the area, and while the batter was crispy, it was also relatively flavorless to me. It's nothing that can't be remedied with a few dunks in tartar sauce, but it wasn't my favorite compared to the other options in Orlando. That being said, the prices are lower here than in Orlando's joints, running from $13.99 to $22.99, depending on the fish. If you're in the area, you can give them a try yourself.

The Castle Irish Pub

Newer in College Park is the Castle Irish Pub. With their roots coming from the county of Kilkenny in the South East of Ireland, they’ve created an authentic atmosphere in Orlando of an upscale Pub. For fish and chips, you can try their Beer Battered Haddock, Thick-Cut Irish Chips, and Mushy Peas, served with Tartar Sauce and Malt Vinegar. Theirs is a hearty batter, crispy and deep golden brown, slightly heavier than others, but quite delicious. Their curry chips are also flavorful and worth trying. The price of their dish is $18, which is somewhat lower than some of the offerings around town, and for the quality, it is worth it.

Gordon Ramsay’s Fish and Chips

I am a Gordon Ramsay fan, so when we finally got one of his eateries here in Orlando, I was there within the first week of the opening. I thought they did a good job with the fish, but the chips were definitely lackluster for me—soggy and overly seasoned. While it’s not a local spot, fans of Chef Ramsay need to give it at least one visit.

My Kitchen Wings and Fish

Not technically “fish and chips” but the fried fish over at My Kitchen Wings and Fish has a great batter. They have Fish and Wing combos like the one seen here which was the Cod Combo. For $16.99 tt comes with two pieces of fish, five wings and french fries or fried rice. The homemade sauces are delicious.
